Yuan Carnival Kuching Day 2 Part 1

Last Sunday, I went to Yuan Carnival Kuching 2011 organize by NTV7!!! I actually went on the first day but was there too late so all the stalls are closing by then.

Anyway, I get to meet the cast from TimeFM showing on NTV7 every Thursday 11pm and this week is the last episode of the 13 episode shown!!! I'm not equip with any decent camera at that time so I'm using Norman's photos in the meant time. =P I also met a few friends during the carnival and had a decent chat with them.

Halfway during the time when the autograph session is on, Norman, his apprentice and I went around the school to get some snacks! Norman and I even auditioned for NTV7 by reading news in front of a camera. It was a nervous moment for me as I auditioned for English and Mandarin and need to read both script back-to-back! I did misread some part but it was fun being in the spotlight for a few minutes.

This is the time where they are having fun playing pass the rubber band game with their fans!

Anyway, I had fun too in the beginning I actually went up to stage to compete with 5 other audience in a drinking water competition with the OneFM DJs Jane, Nicholas and Kyan! I didn't win the first prize but it's a fun experience up there and to see them up close! =P

And that's it! My first time going to the Yuan Carnival lasted until 4pm and then I went home then come back later in the evening which I shall tell you in my next post! =D

Red Wine tasting session at Pink Miracle Karaoke

Last night, I went to a event at Pink Miracle Karaoke, Jalan Mendu invited by Rose! So the event starts at 8.30pm according to Rose and so I arrive after that and on the way thinking that I was late!!!

First trial

and so we all arrive about 9p.m. and Eve a bit later.

Both wines. Currently only 2 types available

That night, Pink Miracle Karaoke had a 1/2 price promotion on 3rd bottle of wine and RM50 for the 4th bottle onwards. Normal price is RM80 for both type of wines. Both bottles are suitable to drink while eating cheese~~ Yummy cheese =D I like the wine with the red label one better. Both taste a bit more to sour and quite dry.

I also learnt that wine can smell differently at different angle while holding the wine glass to my nose. 3 different positions all have different meaning. 1st smell from the top of the glass, I'm suppose to smell where the wine comes from but er.. first time doing it so I can't differentiate. 2nd smell which is in the middle of the glass, minerals from that country that produce the wine can be identified. 3rd smell which is the lower part of the wine glass, John told me that the taste or smell depends on how good that person that made this wine is. The smoother the smell, the better it is. *take note I tilt the glass at 45 angle like that*

First day at work!

Today is my first day of work after my unofficial graduate from Swinburne.
Nothing really major to do yet but will be increase overtime with the future events!
I go to and fro from office to Station One cafe outlet almost 5 times today, in the future sure need to go more often.

Today I feel so blessed because:

I won a lego camera from Mijonju

I finally got a job as a sales clerk at Station 1 cafe

July is such an awesome month! I successfully graduate from Swinburne unofficially on 1st July.

BHR Padawan Challenge Part 1

The first time I heard about this event is through Sarawak Bloggers portal which really interest me because I never been to Borneo Height.

So hmm, I thought this is my chance to go up to enjoy the nature.

Yesterday morning, I woke up super early like 5a.m. to prepare and 5.40a.m. my trekking partner Chai Fung came to fetch me.

So we're off to Kota Padawan and had breakfast before proceeding to the Borneo Highland foothill.

So this is where we got off from the taxi, nice scenery right?

I shall bore you with all the photos taken by my phone now =)

Anyway, at the starting point less than halfway I was struggling to go on in the trek. It was so tiring in my mind and body that I wanted to give up! My partner kept on cheering me on and said: 'Sherrie, don't give up!'. I rested quite a number of times in the jungle. My white clothes are all muddy colour now.

During the trek, it's leaping through rivers, climbing through tree trunks, go through a mountain fall, climbing upwards like wall climbing through the mud and walk upwards and downwards. Halfway, there's even rain to help make the tracks even muddier and dirty.

The most rewarding experience for me, is at the Kalimantan Viewpoint! So peaceful and serene view.

If only the time allows, I would have finish the whole track and might even stand a chance to be in the top 15. I'm just too slow to regain my strength! Almost fainted due to fatigue during my mental and physical torture.

After this we took another route to surrender ourselves off the race.

My recent drama obsession!

I'm still in my holiday mood and not making a lot of effort searching for a job. I guess it's because of me being very selective of jobs. So I end up watching Korean drama and Japanese drama day and night until I forget the time and date.
Anyway, I watched 'Playful Kiss' and 'Love shuffle' these 2 weeks.

I really like the soundtrack from 'Love Shuffle' which are 'Eternal flame' and 'Fantasy'.

I'm so undecided on what I want to do.

The thought of traveling to many places makes me happy! I've traveled to Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and my latest location is China! I'm so excited to go to China as I've heard a lot about China but never been there.

My flight was from KK to Shenzhen directly which is about 3hours. While waiting in the plane, I secretly took photos! =P

Anyway, on the flight we actually pass by Hong Kong, no not transit =( How I wish!

We arrived at Shenzhen and straight away we start our long journey bus ride to lunch!

Our menu everyday is more or less the same. We had Chicken (roasted/steamed), Duck(roasted), pork(3 layer/smoked), fish(many bones! lake/pond water type), veggies(pepperbell- they love it so much that it's in our menu everyday), soup(tasteless- salt must be expensive there =P), and etc. The food is always overloaded on the table. We got a spin table and the food is too many to be on the spin table.

We visited a lot of places, cruise so many times that I got tired of looking at the scenery, caves - colourful lights, cultural village, Hong Kong drama sets too!

We even watched a spectacular performance known as 梦幻漓江. It combines ballet and acrobatics. Stunning and lively! Too bad no photos allowed inside.

All together we've traveled 2000KMs for the whole 8days trip! The one i enjoyed the most besides seeing beautiful scenery is the shopping at 虎门 and also in Shenzhen city! Bargaining is an art and is fun to do in China!

I am really serious about getting a job now. Can I just post my resume here? =P
I'm taking Marketing and International Business for my bachelor of business degree major.
I've work for few companies and most of them part time - Clerk, Waitress, Tuition teacher, Sales cashier, sales person and etc.
I was the President for Swinburne Anime and Manga Society (SAMS) and also secretary of Swinburne Dance Club (SDC).
Although I did not participate in huge projects but I did organize a small stall for Swinburne Carnival 2010.
I can speak fluently in English, Mandarin and also Bahasa Melayu.
My area of interest includes swimming, surfing the net, blogging, traveling, cycling and also taking photos.

That's what I can think of so far to include in my resume. Tell you more later, if you are interested. =P

My Most Memorable Experience Buying Online is through www.lomography.com. I recently bought a camera which I really like which is the Lomography Diana Mini! I dream of owning this camera for the longest time (6months!). This is how my baby looks like!(There on the right)

This purchase is memorable because I earn the piggies real hard in the lomography website in order to buy this camera. Piggies is like points where 1 piggy = 1 $USD. I did many stuff for the piggies rumble in the website and earned a total of 30piggies!

The camera cost USD$69 and at that time they also giveaway an Actionsampler to purchases above USD$100! So I bought 3 pack of films and got 15% discounts on the films bought.

I ordered them right away and got them safely after 5days! During those 5days I'm checking their route everyday while waiting anxiously! They use DHL Express to courier to my home and I get to track them everyday to see where they traveled before reaching my loving hands!

Lomo hunter outing Part 1

Yesterday I went to an outing by Lomo Hunters (Kuching lomographers group) and we took a lot of street shots plus candid shots!

At 1pm we gather at McDonalds Tun Jugah and I actually lined up from 12 something until 1 something to get my food from McD. I think the main reason is the coca-cola glass Green version was out on the first day.

Anyway, slowly, many more lomographers and photographers arrive at the top floor.

Personal Review: Diana Mini + Lomography x-Pro 200

Overall, the film is just nice as the ISO is 200. Just too bad part of my film was damaged during lab developing time. I'm satisfied with the effect of crossprocess! You should try it too, take photos using slide film and develop it with C-41 chemical and it will surprise you!

Kite flying at Waterfront

Last Sunday I went to fly kite with the AMP people which includes Hitz Kuching crew, MY FM crew and ERA FM.
Anyway, 3 radio station each gave out 50 kites to the public!!! That's 150 kites y'all!

Here is my new baby! Diana Mini! I brought her out with me that day and took quite a lot of photos~ but that roll is not finish yet! Yes, it's a analogue camera!

This is my cousin Amelia~ Her kite did not flew in the end... partly my fault...it got wet... huhu

At first, there was a lot of people gather in the empty space and it was hard to fly the kite without getting tangled with other people's kite. After some drizzle, strong wind came and poof! My kite flew high! =D

Wee~~ my kite! And it flew up quite high in the sky before it fell into the Sarawak river 30mins after~ TwT Before it got itself into the river, other kites got tangled and my cousin together with Ai Sing My FM DJ helped to rescue my kite~ =)

Ideas to increase readership

Last night I attended the Sarawak bloggers talk: More than a blog.

I will now share with you some of the tips I think is important in blogging.

1. Self regulation- This means that you restrict yourself from bashing others and make negativity in the post to a more positive way.
2. Constant updates- Your reader will want to read your blog if you update your blog =)
3. Read your site analysis:

Find out where your readers are from: Blog about topics that interest them and yourself.
Find out when is the prime time readers visit your blog: therefore update your blog at that time// Suggested update time if your readers are working class: 1pm, 4pm or 9pm and weekdays

Spend 1 hour to read other blogger's work of art ~~blogs~~. Or just 3 blogs a day. =)
Leave comment just to show that you are there and read his/her blog. This can make that blogger happier =)
Choose your title wisely. Do Google keywords from your blog title and if you see yourself at number 1 spot in the search result, then keep that title!
Get your own domain! Reason being that search engine prioritize .com sites. FYI, I'll get one real soon =P

Why did I started blogging?

Initially, I need a place for me to express my feelings whether sad, happy, exciting, angry and etc.
Gradually, blogging gets popular and advertising companies were formed.Many events and contests were and still held. I began to join contest and events which change my style of blogging.
If you followed my blog long enough, you would have notice my once wordy post now are filled with photos from events. Although I still love to blog with words without the hassle of uploading photos but it tend to get dry without photos I suppose.
My blog was more or less died between my 3 years of blogging. =P
I love blogging because I can attend events as media and meet many people. I met really nice bloggers and we become friends! This is the most exciting part! You can meet people that has the same interest like you do and share the passion with each other!

Party weekend at Damai

Remember last last week I attended Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge and last weekend I attended Flipflops beach carnival Kuching 2011 at Damai Puri and Spa!

This trip was planned way ahead by Angel. She's so romantic, she planned this to celebrate her BF's birthday! Anyway, she also invited 14 more friends to come over which includes Fahriee, Mike, Jonathan, and etc.

We arrive at Damai quite early like 11 something and the room was not ready so I decided to join Catheleen and others to swim at the pool~ After swimming, we all grew hungry and decided to go Buntal to catch our lunch because the lunch at Damai itself was too pricey~

After that, we went back and try the Storm Rider ride priced at Rm30. Cat, Stella and I was screaming the whole 15minutes of the ride. We are clinging tightly to the seat and was feeling nervous and afraid of falling into the sea. We are overturned to get down from the ride though.

And at night, the Rave party venue is at the above photo.Too bad the party is not at the beach. More like mud party in the end due to the big pour from the sky. The Dj was good, DJ Co2an was the first DJ on stage. I really enjoyed DJ Delicious Deleeya too. She was rocking the party with Singer Leeya.

Halfway through the party, I went back to the room only to discovered most of the guys was drunk! Some of them are so funny. Jonathan was the funniest, he can text, talk on the phone and almost tripped throughout the night. Mike and Benny was puking in the end due to over drinking. This time, I'm sober =P

Anyway, with more than 10 people sharing 4 single beds the sleep quality is not that good so woke up at 6am and waited for Mike to come to Damai~~ =P Mike and I hope onto the Hot Air Balloon that morning!

And the photos are taken from the Hot Air Balloon ride.Although there are not much to see due to tall trees and mountains, but I did enjoy flying higher above~ If only the wind was stable, then we might have flew at the Beach. =P

Why vote?

After all the hype on State Election in Sarawak, many have yet to register as a voter in the state. Among them are mostly from my contact based on the survey questions asked on FB. This kinda sadden me because most of us are educated and yet some of them are so ignorant of the future of the country. We already having a hard time surviving in this country due to racial discrimination (Personal opinion). Priority is given mostly to natives than Chinese. I urged all of you to start registering for the upcoming General Election to not be left out in shaping the country. Do you want people that has less education than you make that decision for you? Do you want to regret for making indirect bad decision for the country and the effect that impacted yourself? The same saying still goes: If you did not vote, you have absolutely no right to complaint nor feeling unsatisfied because you made the choice when you don't vote.
Many of us wants CHANGE but many also do nothing and expect change. This will not happen because the numbers are just not enough to do anything significant.
Do not! I repeat do not say that your one vote makes no difference, because that is not the case, it makes every difference. Think of it this way, if everyone thinks that their votes are insignificant and decided not to vote and in the end the decision is made by some unknown people. Do you want your fate controlled by unknown people? I sure do not want that that's why I practice my right as a citizen. If you do not wish to vote and do not want to enjoy the privilege as a citizen of Malaysia, go ahead and migrate and get PR status in foreign land and then you'll know how it feels as you cannot do anything(vote, change policies, voice out dissatisfaction...etc).
Of cos, please read the rules of voting properly to avoid contributing to the spoil votes. These votes are the insignificant ones because it didn't mean anything to anyone.

In addition, the most common spoil votes is those marking more than 1 party in a ballot.(I guess) So please make your choice properly because there's only ONE choice. Not multiple answers like in exam. =P

In my previous post, I've been telling you how much I wanted to go to the party and then I got my exclusive pass and went all the way from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur!
Right! Back to the event! Here are the photos~ I didn't take many shots because it's dark inside~ The event takes place at Le Marquee @ Palace of Golden Horses Mines!

The event was suppose to start at 8pm and JW did mentioned that first 200 guests gets a small surprise but unfortunately for bloggers and contest winners, we didn't get any although we are queuing since 7something. My group consist of Mike, Catheleen, Joachim, and Dennis. Although the queuing time was long, it was all worth it because we get to experience the lounge earlier than late comers~ Overall, people are just happily drinking away. I drank too much and end up drunk~ Don't ask me what happened next because I can't remember. Memory loss~ This event was great except for the waiting part and DJ Faith, DJ Sophia Lin and DJ Bento mixes are hot enough to woo the crowd! I would love to attend this kind of event again! =)

You gain something over this feelings that you once hated so much.
You learned to faced them.
You are prepared to face the challenges ahead independently

TLS day 3 - Borneo Youth Declaration part

On this day, I was expecting to attend a financial workshop conducted by Jonathan if not mistaken. So here we are around 150 of us in the greathall waiting for the event to start.
The emcee, Ann was asking us to say something for the youth and what we want to see after this summit. So Cyril was the first one talking in front. After that, I go up and talk about youths being ignorant of the politics issues happening around us. I was asking for a show of hand of those registered as voters and those that are eligible to vote. The result was that less than half of the eligible youths registered themselves. I did mentioned that if you do not vote, you have no right to complaint about the government because you made a choice by not voting.

After that, Nordin and others arrived at the hall and started talking about the Borneo Youth Declaration. A lot of us disagree with the declaration because the input is not from us. Cyril actually ask for printed copies from the organizers to properly read the content of the declaration until someone from Swinburne talks about going green. But in the end we got our printed copies and had 2 long hours of discussions on the declaration draft.
The event concluded with all participants confused for the workshop was canceled. I suppose that the organizers did not expect youths from Borneo to disagree with their plans.
Overall, I am thankful that the organizers gave free passes to me and I am able to attend this event. A lot of networking after the event. =)

p/s: However, I do regret not having any namecards to be given out throughout the event.

Tomorrow's Leaders Summit Day 2

On this day, I was right on time to arrive at BCCK but was late to go into the great hall because was waiting for Starbucks~

So this is the Greathall, Nobel Laureate, Professor Douglas D. Osheroff is giving keynote speech on stage. He talks about physics and heliums and used many technical science term that I did not quite understand.I remember parts where he talks about his discovery of gun powders and his marriage life as a researcher.

After the keynote speech, we have a leadership panel discussion on the topic 'Developing High Income Youth'. While the panels are on stage, we are busy eating away at the end of the hall with the breakfast provided for delgates and media. I did hear discussions on the definition of 'High income' but after that, no more discussions on the topic. I'm quite happy to see many youths going to the mic to ask questions during the panel sessions.

There was quite a debate among the panels, one supporting the youth and another supports the older generation thinking. The panels are outdoing each other during the session. The discussion going on inside my mind is that if youths are not recognize for their ability and competencies, how can they grow from there?

After that, we had lunch. Pris was saying that she's so full from eating the breakfast from earlier on. This time, the lunch was at the right side of the hall. I went to the Leadership workshop later on with David Hoe as the speaker. If you don't know which one is him, head over to the photo above and spot the biggest smile! =) He talks about leadership is the ability of influence. There are 4 main factors to leadership. (To be updated) The moderator for this session is Rodz.

This is Eileen from Singapore to talk on Green issues

The next workshop I went is going green. The moderator here is Daniel.Eileen did a presentation on how we contributed to the environmental damage. The answer is consumerism. We over consume on food,clothes and things that we do not need. By doing this, we are creating demand and the supplier are sure to supply our wants which in turn waste the resources from the earth. Anyway, she showed us a meaningful video. It still applies to us now.

After this workshop, we head back to the Greathall to eat some snacks. I didn't know that the youth transformation lab was happening at the same time. All participants was given Starbucks! This concludes the second day at the summit.

The Mitsubishi 4x4 DAKAR RALLY Experience

Yesterday morning (I wrote this today at 19March), I went to The Dakar Rally Press launch at Travillion. We had breakfast. =)Then went straight for the interview session after speech from Mitsubishi CEO and Deputy Mayor.The other members of media was asking for expected numbers of cars to be sold for the year 2011.
I asked Mr. Hiroshi why was he interested in Dakar Rally (Extreme sport).

He answered that this sport is one of the toughest sport in the world because there's only 30% of the participants can complete the course. One slight mistake will jeopardize the whole competition. He was involve in this sport for 21 years already! He chose Mitsubishi because Mitsubishi was proven to be tough and have advance technology to take him through the tough ride! (He actually answered in Japanese and his translator explain his answers to me)

Anyway, The Dakar Rally is on from today (March 19) and tomorrow (20 March) from 9am to 9pm at Travillion! Most importantly, the admission is FREE!

Hello everyone!
Today I'm going to discuss on how Swinburne (my current university) aims to suck the students dry of their money.
Firstly, the university's main aim is to earn every last bit of money only, I repeat only from the students. Students: People that are currently employed as students and does not have income.
Sad to say, my Uni is sucking money out of us (students). They impose carpark charges on all students and staff. It is charge by hours mine you. Rm1 per hour. Seasonal parking rates: Rm60 for shaded carpark with confirm parking space and Rm40 for unshaded and unconfirmed parking space. This is ridiculous you might think. Other university paid for the staff to park outside the university if the parking space is limited but over here, they demanded the staff( lecturers) to pay up for parking. The lame reason for setting up a carpark entry rate is to decrease the traffic congestion inside the uni compound. They forget that Kuching being a small city does not have proper public transportation system. In the end, we are still forced to drive our own car to the uni. The lame reasoning does not reduce traffic congestion, it only adds more burden in our wallet to pay the expensive parking fees (even more expensive than The Spring Shopping Mall).

Secondly, the students here are not standing up for their rights. If it's just me and a few others, the university or management will simply brush us away. We need support from all the students, even if you are not driving please to do fight for the benefit of others. And those people that are benefiting from all these are encourage to join in the cause and not just enjoy the benefits afterward without fighting for it. =)

Thirdly, the Swinburne Management is not standing in the students' side, they stand at the profit and money side. They never listen to students' view (they will argue they did, and do nothing about it) , I wonder why they even want students to complete the survey for. It is a waste of time and money and effort to ask(force) students to do the Swinburne survey.

Fourthly, the staff of Swinburne are quiet about the implementation of carpark fees. Maybe this is because they got compensations or they don't mind paying up because they have high income?

Fifthly, The university claims that the building does not belongs to them and they have no say in the owners' actions? Shouldn't they generate more income by attracting more students and building bigger carparking facilities and not charging the students on carpark and decrease students intake? The marketing department should even change their marketing lines to 'Come to Swinburne and get rip-off your parents' hard earned money by paying for carpark fees and many more miscellaneous fees'. This will be more effective shooing away students. They wanted an increase of students to 5000, but with this kind of attitude and facilities, there is no way that the goal will succeed. Please do not be fooled by the Australian Certified university. This is a private university that wants your money and will get it with all the means and method there is.
There's a rumour that the carparking profit will be divided 50-50 amongst the investors and the university itself. (That's why the university is not standing on the students' side)

I urge all high school leavers NOT to enter Swinburne as this is a money-sucking university that cares not about you or your education but of your money and find ways and means to take it away from you. =)

1. Watch movies at MBO, Star or Lotus
2. Have karaoke session at lounge, k-box and etc.
3. Eat eat and eat~ with so many cafe and kopitiam, we just go out and eat. Hence the round shape body~ =3
4. Bowling at Crystal or Riverside
5. Snooker or pool at various places but limited non-smoking ones
6. Swimming at Stampark or MBKS
7. Go to the beach, rivers or waterfall to picnic
8. Walk or stroll at waterfront, reservoir or other parks
9. Maybe some photo taking sessions for those with cameras
10. Shopping at India Street
11. Shopping at Spring, Hills, Crown Square, Hock Lee, Riverside, One Jaya, Saberkas, Tun Jugah, Sarawak Plaza and that's it!
12. Mountain climbing to Gunung Gading, Singai, Santubong
13. Visit wind cave, fairy cave and the gold lake in Bau
14. Crocodile farm visiting

I can't think of anything to do anymore. =P Some of the activities are out of city area so we'll just repeating the same activities that we can do in city area.

I had been watching movie 5 times in a week. I guess the next thing to do is to work part time.
